Webb Mum on Allens Comeback Attempt
Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) refused to comment on the recently announced candidacy of former Sen. George Allen (R-Va.) on a Tuesday afternoon conference call with Virginia reporters.
Webb said he was still consulting with his family about whether to run for a second term. He highlighted the fact that it is an eight-year commitment at this point.
“I feel like we’ve done a lot of good since I’ve been in the Senate,” Webb said, noting his leadership on criminal justice reform and America’s relationship with Southeast Asia. “It’s been good, I hope, for the people of Virginia. I think they feel that way, and I enjoy serving my country.”
Webb said concerns regarding his relatively slow fundraising will not be a problem should he decide to run, citing his long-shot 2006 bid, which he started just nine months before Election Day.
He reiterated his intent to announce a decision by the end of March.
