Heard on the Hill: The Cool Kids
House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer is hipper than he seems, according to Rep. Mary Bono Mack.
The California Republican introduced singer Kenny Loggins on Wednesday at an event sponsored by the Recording Academy, the group that oversees the Grammy Awards. But before Loggins performed, Bono Mack recognized Hoyer, explaining that she and the Maryland Democrat are co-chairmen of the Recording Arts and Sciences Congressional Caucus.
Bono Mack noted that Hoyer, who didn’t attend the event, is “a much cooler guy than he comes across.” Being in the caucus, she said, “hipped him up.”
Hoyer seemed flattered by Bono Mack’s remarks.
“Mr. Hoyer appreciates all of the hard work Rep. Bono Mack has done over the years to support the work of recording professionals in this country, which enriches our culture and is vital to our uniquely American cultural heritage,” spokesman Daniel Reilly says. “He attributes any perceived coolness to his association with her.”
