Office of Congressional Ethics Names Staff Director

The Office of Congressional Ethics on Thursday named Omar Ashmawy as its new staff director and chief counsel.

Ashmawy, who joined the OCE as its deputy director, has served as acting staff director since former top aide Leo Wise left the office in November.

“The board is delighted that Omar Ashmawy will continue to apply his talents and experience to OCE’s work,” OCE Chairman and ex-Rep. Porter Goss (R-Fla.) said in a statement.

Ashmawy previously served in the U.S. Air Force’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps before arriving on Capitol Hill.

He received both his bachelor’s and law degrees from George Washington University.

The OCE, established in 2008, is tasked with reviewing potential rules violations and recommending investigations to the House Ethics Committee.
