Chairwoman Patty Murray (Wash.) and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee announced three senior staff hires Tuesday morning.

Crystal King, North Carolina Sen. Kay Hagan’s former chief of staff and campaign manager, will be the DSCC’s political director. Before overseeing Hagan’s defeat of former National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairwoman Elizabeth Dole during the 2008 cycle, King worked as Midwest political director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

During the 2004 cycle she was political director for Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry’s Ohio presidential campaign. A native of Dayton, Ohio, and a graduate of Ohio University, King has worked for former Rep. Tony Hall (Ohio) and former Sen. John Glenn (Ohio), as well as Rep. Louise Slaughter (N.Y.). She has also worked for the Democratic National Committee, the Service Employees International Union and the ATLAS Project, a Democratic consulting firm.

Angelique Cannon will be the committee’s finance director. She had close ties to the DSCC: In 1999 she served as the committee’s Western regional finance director, and in 2004 she served as national director for Murray’s re-election. She has worked in similar positions at EMILY’s List and Third Way and for then-Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend’s gubernatorial bid in Maryland and Sen. Mark Warner’s race in Virginia.

Finally, Amy Gooden will continue as the DSCC’s research director, a position she was first promoted to in May. Gooden began her career in research on then-Rep. Harold Ford Jr.’s 2006 Senate bid in Tennessee. She then worked with the DCCC, first as a research analyst for the Western region and then doing research for its independent expenditure arm. A Vanderbilt University alumna, she is a Chicago native.
