NRSC Goes After Democrats in Stimulus ‘Birthday’ Video

It’s a day of celebration for the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

The Senate GOP’s political arm is marking the two-year anniversary of the stimulus act with a new Web video and targeted attacks on five Democrats facing challenging re-election contests in 2012.

The 60-second video, “Happy Anniversary Stimulus,” notes that “two years ago today, the stimulus became law.” It goes on to say that the country now has $4 trillion more debt and 14 million unemployed.

The video closes on this dark note: “Two years of liberal economics have failed America.”

The NRSC included video clips of various Democratic Senators endorsing the stimulus package, contrasted with the unemployment rates in their states.

Sen. Claire McCaskill (Mo.) calls the package “wildly successful,” Sen. Sherrod Brown (Ohio) says “Just right,” newly elected Sen. Joe Manchin (W.Va.) notes it made “a big difference,” Sen. Bill Nelson (Fla.) says the bill “is going to help,” and Sen. Jon Tester (Mont.) says “we needed something to really put people back to work and I think this bill does that.”

All five Senators, of course, are top GOP targets in 2012. They need four seats to win back Senate control.
