NRSC Dubs Kaine an Obama Cheerleader (VIDEO)

As Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine mulls over whether to run for the open Senate seat in Virginia, the National Republican Senatorial Committee on Tuesday morning is launching a website to highlight Kaine’s outspoken support for President Barack Obama’s policies.

While Kaine was Virginia’s governor for four years, the site touts his most recent work serving as a surrogate for the Democratic Party, including defending the stimulus, health care reform and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

“Hey, hey, Obama, Tim Kaine is the best,” the video’s cheerleading announcer says, as multiple cheerleaders dance on screen with Kaine’s head attached to their bodies. “He’s your No. 1 cheerleader, cheering from the left.”

This is the latest installment in an effort by the GOP committee to highlight issues that it says show Kaine puts the Democratic agenda ahead of the state’s interests. Kaine and Obama are close friends, and the Virginian was in Obama’s final three list for potential running mates.

Kaine has not indicated whether he will seek the seat being vacated by Sen. Jim Webb (D), but it is widely believed he would be the party’s strongest candidate and the White House hopes he mounts a bid. At least two Republicans, including former Sen. George Allen, are already running.
