HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Bachmann’s Bright Idea

Congress has a pretty full plate these days as it tackles serious issues such as the continuing resolution, but Rep. Michele Bachmann has something else on her mind: light bulbs.

The Minnesota Republican and tea party darling reintroduced the Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act on Tuesday. The bill would repeal a 2007 mandate that requires the phasing out of incandescent light bulbs in an effort to cut energy costs and lesson the nation’s carbon footprint.

Bachmann says the mandate infringes on American’s individual, er, shopping rights.

“The government has no business telling an individual what kind of light bulb to buy,” Bachmann says. “The American people want less government intrusion into their lives, not more, and that includes staying out of their personal light bulb choices.”

Forget Planned Parenthood funding or President Barack Obama’s budget, this is the real national debate.
