HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Members to Hit the Green
Fore! We hear one Congressman is so excited about the Congressional Charity Golf Classic scheduled for June 13 that he is already handing out save-the-date cards.
Rep. Joe Baca, who will serve as honorary chairman of the tournament alongside Rep. Ander Crenshaw (R-Fla.), distributed the cards to reporters in the Speaker’s lobby during Wednesday votes. A tipster tells HOH that the California Democrat exited the House floor with a stack of cards that he had presumably been handing out to fellow lawmakers.
While Baca is looking forward to the game, he is more excited about raising money for charity.
“The event is about much more than competition. It’s also a great opportunity to raise some much-needed funds for the Disabled Sports USA Wounded Warrior Project,” he tells HOH.
Baca isn’t the only one prepping to hit the golf course at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va. Former Rep. Dennis Hertel (D-Mich.), president of the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress, will also tee up, though he admits his game could use some work.
“I can’t tell you who the best golfer is on Capitol Hill, but I’m pretty sure I’m the worst,” he says. “The beauty of this tournament is that all are welcome. We don’t care how well you play.”
The U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress is co-hosting the tournament with the PGA of America.
