Report: Pelosi Hospitalized in Italy

Updated: 11:31 a.m.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was hospitalized Monday after feeling “slightly unwell” during a visit to Rome, the Agence-France Presse is reporting.

The California Democrat, who is in Italy to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the nation’s unification, was scheduled to meet with Defense Minister Ignazio La Russa and Gianfranco Fini, head of the lower house of parliament, when she felt “slightly unwell.”

Pelosi was forced to cancel her meeting with La Russa and postpone her meeting with Fini. She is undergoing tests in Rome’s Umberto I hospital.

A spokesman for Pelosi did not immediately respond to a request for a comment.

Rep. Bill Pascrell later told NBC News that Pelosi was out of the hospital and back at her hotel after undergoing “a few tests.”

“She’s fine. She’s in good shape. Just a few tests to make sure she was all right,” the New Jersey Democrat said.

Pascrell and Pelosi were both part of a delegation in Afghanistan before their stop in Italy. Pascrell said that they had “a strenuous few days” in Afghanistan but that the trip was productive.
