Cue the hanging chad jokes.

The contestants in this weekend’s Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run already crossed the finish line, but the race for the Capitol Hill Competition trophy isn’t over just yet.

The competing Congressional offices will have to wait a little longer before a new victor is crowned, HOH hears. Congressional Federal Credit Union representatives are busily tallying the results, but they won’t be ready to reveal the team winner of the epic showdown for two weeks.

That leaves last year’s title winners in Sen. Mike Enzi’s office with the coveted trophy for a precious few more weeks before the new champions whisk it away. Team FrEnzi trained hard for Sunday’s race, but staffers in the Wyoming Republican’s office won’t know whether their epic workout regime paid off until the final vote is counted.

After the results are in, however, race representatives will present the lucky office with the prize. Along with bragging rights and a trophy, the winning office gets to designate funds to a hospital in their district or state connected to the Children’s Miracle Network.

More than 622 legislators, aides and government employees participated in this year’s run, and 91 Members of Congress served as honorary race chairmen. Let’s hope no one requests a recount, or things could get ugly.
