HOHs One-Minute Recess: Move Over, Ryan
Capitol Hill might be awash in budget talk and shutdown fever, but Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) isn’t the hottest celebrity on the Hill Tuesday.
There are plenty of famous faces (and we don’t mean famous-on-C-SPAN) around Washington, and each has some political connections: actor Kevin Spacey, who’s here to advocate for arts funding, recently played lobbyist Jack Abramoff in the movie “Casino Jack.” And Alec Baldwin, who joined Spacey, has long toyed with running for office himself.
Fashion designer Vera Wang, whose political chops include designing a wedding dress for Chelsea Clinton, met with lawmakers to promote legislation that would protect fashion designers against knock-off competitors.
And Hill visitor Tamara Tunie, who stars in “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit,” has slightly more tenuous government ties — she played an FBI agent whose mission it was to protect a Senator on the series “24.” Tunie was set to deliver a petition Tuesday asking lawmakers to conduct hearings on child abuse and neglect.
