Giffords Plans to Attend Space Shuttle Launch
Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is expected to attend the April 29 launch of space shuttle Endeavor, which will be commanded by her husband Capt. Mark Kelly.
The Arizona Democrat’s office released a press release Friday detailing the plans for her attendance.
Giffords suffered a gunshot wound to the head on Jan. 8 in Tucson, Ariz., during a “Congress on Your Corner” event outside a local grocery store. Six people were killed in the shooting, while 12 others were wounded.
But the Congresswoman has been making a steady recovery in a treatment facility in Houston, Texas. Giffords will attend her husband’s launch at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, pending approval from her doctors.
Meanwhile, her staff is doing all they can to make the arrangements possible.
“Congresswoman Giffords very much wants to attend,” Giffords’ communications director C.J. Karamargin told Roll Call. “And we are planning for that to happen. The Congresswoman has always been very supportive of her husband’s career, and Captain Kelly has always been supportive of hers. There’s no reason for any of that to change now.”
