Gingrich to Launch White House Bid Wednesday

Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) will make his long-anticipated 2012 presidential bid official on Wednesday, according to his spokesman.

Gingrich will make a formal announcement on Facebook and Twitter, followed by an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News later that evening, spokesman Rick Tyler confirmed in an email. He will also deliver a speech Friday at the Georgia Republican Party State Convention and then head to Iowa the following week.

Gingrich has been publicly mulling a White House bid for months, and he announced in early March that he was exploring running.

Another Georgia Republican, Herman Cain, announced late last week that he will broadcast his decision regarding a presidential campaign on May 21 in his hometown of Atlanta. A former chief executive of Godfather’s Pizza, Cain set up an exploratory committee in January and is expected to announce he’s officially running.

The Associated Press first reported the news that Gingrich is making his bid formal.
