That space we’ve been saving on our bookshelf — right between John F. Kennedy’s “Profiles in Courage” and Splash Kennedy’s “My Senator and Me” — will just have to stay empty.

Former Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.) has put aside work on his much-anticipated memoir of addiction, depression and life in the storied Kennedy clan.

He has iced plans to debut “Coming Clean” this November and is instead focusing on his work, a Kennedy associate tells HOH.

The Associated Press first reported that Kennedy had decided to spend less time on the book, which he was to write with former HOH scribe Mary Ann Akers, and more time on his organization boosting brain research.

“It’s beyond a full-time endeavor,” the Kennedy source tells us of the former Congressman’s efforts to organize the neuroscience community behind goals for research milestones.

Kennedy has also been busy with another important pursuit: The former lawmaker recently announced his engagement to New Jersey school teacher Amy Petitgout.

A publicist for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, which was to publish the book, referred us to Kennedy’s camp.
