Heard on the Hill: Fasting for Budget Fairness

If everything goes as planned, Rep. Keith Ellison will have participated in a 40-hour protest fast this weekend.

“I’m fasting with the group Asamblea de Derechos Civiles for budget fairness, civil rights, and immigration rights,” the Minnesota Democrat said in a tweet Thursday. He urged his Twitter followers to join him.

This isn’t the first time Ellison has fasted as a protest. Earlier this year he joined a group of 10 Democrats to complete a “relay” fast, in which each skipped meals for a day before passing the hungry baton to the next one in line. The group was protesting the Republican budget and its funding priorities.
