EMILY’s List Endorses Janice Hahn

Fresh off a successful primary campaign and now running in the July 12 special runoff for California’s 36th district, Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn on Wednesday received the endorsement of EMILY’s List, an organization that works to elect female candidates who support abortion rights.

Even though Hahn is heavily favored, the financial support that goes with the group’s endorsement should come in handy against wealthy businessman Craig Huey (R), who loaned his campaign $500,000 in the primary.

“Republican self-funder Craig Huey would add ranks to a party currently waging war on American women and families and attempting to end Medicare as we know it,” EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock said. “Janice is the progressive leader that California families deserve and EMILY’s List is glad to be able to help her get to Washington.”

The endorsement came on the heels of backing from several Democratic leaders, including Gov. Jerry Brown, Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom (who defeated Hahn in the 2010 lieutenant governor primary), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (Md.).
