Romney Chooses New Hampshire for 2012 Announcement
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) will formally announce his 2012 bid for president June 2 in New Hampshire, sources confirmed Thursday evening to Roll Call.
Romney’s pending announcement is anything but a surprise. The Republican, who ran for president in 2008, has been actively raising money since forming his exploratory committee last month and has in fact been positioning himself for a second White House campaign for the past three years.
Sources confirmed to Roll Call the details of the announcement, which were first reported by the Union Leader newspaper Thursday. The announcement will be made at an afternoon barbecue at the Stratham, N.H., farm of Republicans Doug and Stella Scamman, according to the Manchester, N.H., newspaper.
The Scammans, who have both served in the state House, have previously hosted political events for President George W. Bush, former Vice President Dan Quayle, former Sen. Judd Gregg (N.H.) and other prominent Republicans.
