Former Sen. George LeMieux (R-Fla.), seeking to get his old job back, has brought on veteran political consultant Brian Seitchik as his campaign manager. Seitchik was, notably, now-Sen. Marco Rubio’s campaign manager during the early stages of Rubio’s battle for the Republican nomination for Senate with Gov. Charlie Crist.

In an email to supporters, Seitchik introduced himself and emphasized LeMieux’s voting record during his 16-month tenure in the Senate, which will be a key plank of the former Senator’s campaign. “George is the only candidate in the race that NEVER voted for a tax increase or requested an earmark and the only candidate with a plan to balance the budget, his 2007 solution,” Seitchik wrote. “I’m supporting George because he is a proven conservative leader who understands this principle and his voting record in the United States Senate strongly reflected those values.”

LeMieux earlier brought on consultant Jon Lerner to advise his strategy and take charge of polling.

In the primary race for a chance to take on two-term Sen. Bill Nelson (D), LeMieux faces former Florida House Majority Leader Adam Hasner and Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos.

LeMieux had served as Crist’s chief of staff before the governor appointed him to the Senate in September 2009 to fill the remainder of Sen. Mel Martinez’s term.

Crist became politically toxic among Florida Republicans after he bolted the party in an attempt to beat Rubio as an Independent. LeMieux’s connection to Crist has already become fodder for his opponents.

Seitchik will face the challenge of separating LeMieux from Crist in the minds of Republican primary voters.
