Reids Spokesman to Step Down
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s chief spokesman, Jon Summers, will announce Friday that he is departing the Nevada Democrat’s leadership office, sources confirmed Thursday evening.
Summers’ tenure with Reid includes service during the Majority Leader’s difficult but ultimately successful 2010 re-election bid. His responsibilities were upgraded in January, when Reid reorganized his leadership “war room” media operation and combined it with the old Democratic Policy Committee to form the new Democratic Policy and Communications Center.
The DPCC is run by Conference Vice Chairman Charles Schumer, and Summers has been sharing leadership communications duties with aides to the New York Democrat, although his focus has been primarily to serve as Reid’s spokesman.
It was unclear late Thursday what Summers’ next plans are or whether a replacement had been hired.
