HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Making Bartlet Proud
Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), the New Hampshire State Society and a 7-foot stuffed moose hosted a reception Wednesday in the Russell Senate Office Building.
The second annual Experience New Hampshire event was well attended by Members of Congress. Spotted: Sens. Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii), Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), Mary Landrieu (D-La.), Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Thad Cochran (R-Miss.), and Reps. Mike Capuano (D-Mass.), Charles Bass (R-N.H.) and Frank Guinta (R-N.H.).
HOH caught former Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) as she was racing out the door to pick up her mother from Reagan National Airport. The Senator lives in Arlington, Va., and she said her boys are still in school.
We weren’t the only one happy to see Lincoln. On her way out she got one big hug and a “Gotta love New Hampshire!” from Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), as well as another big hug and cheek kiss from Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.).
Apparently, the former Arkansas Senator will be taking her boys to Rhode Island for the first time. The very helpful Whitehouse (in Pumas as ever) promised to email her a list of sights not to be missed.
The New Hampshire’s Smuttynose beer was flowing, and the crowd was definitely wowed by the nosh (lobster, salmon, duck AND pizza. Yes, please!). The hostess also looked like she was having a blast.
Shaheen was decked out in a bright pink blazer (a lot like one Landrieu was rocking last week, incidentally). When we remarked that anything New Hampshire puts us in a “West Wing” state of mind, she told us that one of the most exciting days in the office when she was governor was when the NBC show called to ask what the view from her office was.
“The office was all atwitter that day,” she said. President Jed Bartlet would be proud, Senator!
