Heard on the Hill: T-Paw Blasted by Former Boss

Former Sen. David Durenberger (R-Minn.) thinks his former intern and one-time driver, Tim Pawlenty, is full of bunk — at least as far as health care is concerned.

Durenberger has been wildly unimpressed with the former Minnesota governor and Republican presidential candidate for some time now. Way back in November 2010, he blasted T-Paw in his newsletter.

“Listening to our Gov. Tim Pawlenty run for president against this kind of health system and policy is appalling,” Durenberger wrote. He also wrote that Pawlenty’s statements on the health care overhaul legislation were “outright bull.”

In the same newsletter, Durenberger claimed that “health provider groups in Minnesota … endorsed ‘anyone but the Pawlenty heir’ for governor.”

On Monday, Durenberger was knocking his old intern again.

“While Pawlenty and Bachmann represent a state which has been committed to universal coverage and healthcare cost containment for decades, neither has done much to make it a reality,” he wrote on theHealthCareBlog.com, referencing Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), who is also running for president.

“Assuming ‘repeal and replace’ implies state action is preferable to national, they’ve nothing to show for their efforts so far.”

Burn! Take that, T-Paw!
