The House scrapped its plans to recess the week of July 18 as Members on both sides of the Capitol continue to work through debt and budget matters.

“Members are advised that the House will now be in session during the week of July 18,” read a notice to Members from the office of Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.). “This is a change from the original House calendar distributed in December of last year.”

The chamber will consider a balanced budget amendment that week, which “All Members are encouraged to support to ensure that we begin to get our fiscal house in order,” the notice read. The Senate was already scheduled to be in session that week.

The Senate scrapped its recess this week, citing the need to work on the debt limit, although a bipartisan agreement that can pass both chambers has yet to surface. Bipartisan negotiators will be working through the weekend in the lead-up to another White House meeting set for Sunday.
