Report: Pete Hoekstra Will Challenge Stabenow

A Michigan news outlet reported Tuesday that former Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.) has decided to challenge Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) next year.

MIRS News reported Hoekstra said that his decision would come “very, very quickly.” His campaign delivers Republicans a top recruit to take on Stabenow.

Hoekstra ruled out a Senate bid earlier this year, but his former campaign aides told Roll Call recently that he was reconsidering his decision.

Hoekstra left Congress after nine terms and ran for governor in 2010, but he lost the GOP primary to now-Gov. Rick Snyder (R).
