Nevada state Sen. John Lee has made it official that he is running for Congress next year.

Lee joins two fellow Democrats, Assembly Speaker John Oceguera and former Rep. Dina Titus, in announcing a bid for a still-undefined district. The state’s redistricting process is now being handled by a court-appointed panel, so it’s unknown where exactly Lee will run or whom his opponents will be.

Lee said he will run in the district that incorporates most of his North Las Vegas state Senate district. That could mean running against Oceguera in a primary for the nod to take on Rep. Joe Heck (R).

“Our Nation faces real challenges and many Nevadans are deeply concerned that decades of failed leadership and short-term fixes have put our country on the wrong path,” Lee said in a statement. “We need to get our fiscal house in order, and that means reducing our debt but without hurting our children, our seniors, our veterans and the most vulnerable members of our society.”

Las Vegas Sun columnist Jon Ralston, who reported last week that Lee would seek a House seat, also reported that state Sen. Ruben Kihuen (D) and state Senate Majority Leader Steven Horsford (D) are likely to run.
