Report: Postponed Ceremony for King Memorial Will Be Held in Mid-October
The dedication ceremony for the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial has been rescheduled for Oct. 16, the Associated Press reported Sunday.
It had been planned for Aug. 28, the 48th anniversary of King’s “I Have A Dream” speech, but Hurricane Irene’s path up the East Coast forced planners to postpone the ceremony out of safety concerns.
President Barack Obama, who had been scheduled to appear at the original ceremony, will speak at the dedication.
A formal announcement will be made later this week.
