HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Hooters = America

By now it is pretty well established that no one will ever forget Sept. 11, so it is only natural that Hooters, an establishment known for its chicken, will also remember 9/11.

The restaurant’s YouTube video opens with sad brass music and images of the twin towers in silhouette, while the words “Hooters® Remembers” scroll across the top.

The six smiley waitresses in Hooters uniforms (heretofore referred to as Hooties) trill: “God bless America.”

“On this 10th anniversary of Sept. 11,” one Hootie says.

“We would like to thank our firefighters, policemen and paramedics,” several Hooties say, one by one.

“Thank you to the public safety workers for keeping us safe everyday,” a lone Hootie says.

In the next frame, two Hooties hold each other (up?), while one says: “And wanna thank all the men and women who protect our country.”

Then four Hooties hold each other (close?), while one says, “We thank you for everything that you guys do for us.”

And then another Hootie blows kisses, there is a shout-out to a couple of the troops by name and a weirdly avant-garde moment with a framed picture.

So if you your Member of Congress is at Hooters, he’s probably just there as a patriotic gesture.
