Spotted at the 9:30 Club on Wednesday? Rep. Phil Roe totally getting bluegrassy with it.

The Tennessee Republican and his entire office staff trucked over to the iconic D.C. music venue to support Staff Assistant Alex Large’s band, the Second String Band, which made its 9:30 Club debut.

“Just a reminder that we’re playing our BIGGEST SHOW EVER on Wednesday, Sept. 14th at the 9:30 Club!!” the band squeed on its Facebook page. “Band members are coming in from New Zealand(!), Vermont, Philly, and New York.”

(Whoa … how many people are in this band? And how do they get to band practice? Never mind. Awesome-sauce and moving on.)

The Second String Band opened for “the awesomely awesome” (their words) David Wax Museum, a fusion folk band, and promised fans a “wildly fun night of great music.”

For the record, this actually is a big deal if only because the David Wax Museum’s latest album has been heralded as one of the best albums of the year, which in itself speaks pretty highly of the Second String Band.

“[Roe] was very proud of Alex and his performance,” spokeswoman Amanda Little tells HOH.

And the Congressman should know a little something about quality bluegrass performances. Back in medical school, Roe played and recorded with the bluegrass band Pony Express.
