Democrat to Run Against Michigan Freshman

Derek Bailey, chairman of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, will run for the Democratic nomination to challenge freshman Rep. Dan Benishek (R-Mich.), according to the Associated Press. Also in the primary is former state Rep. Gary McDowell.

The expansive 1st district in northern Michigan is competitive.
