HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Keeping Abreast of Bra Trends

Last Sunday, Democratic Rep. Rosa DeLauro (Conn.) was honored at Art Bra New Haven, where artistic bras were auctioned for the Breast Center at Smilow Cancer Hospital.

About 125 people participated in the bra brunch, the Yale Daily News reports. All the bras were handmade and “created by the supporters of ArtBra and included everything from a bra with cups made of shells, to ‘Bucksome,’ a bra with antlers.”

Apparently, the artsy undergarments earned the charity more than $5,000, with the “Wonderful Mermaid” bra, which boasts a stuffed mermaid nestled between the — ahem — ladies, selling for $400.

The Congresswoman was being honored for breast cancer screening legislation that she introduced. As far as we know, DeLauro did not submit a bra for auction.

Instead, she spoke about the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act, which would prevent hospitals from discharging breast cancer patients soon after mastectomy surgery, and the Breast Density and Mammography Reporting Act, which would give women more information about their breast density, which can be a tip-off to breast cancer risk.
