Heard on the Hill: Gala Guest List at a Glance
It’s fall gala season, so HOH has been pretty busy.
At the Mount Vernon gala on Wednesday, we caught up with Virginia’s Republican Senate candidate, former Sen. and Gov. George Allen.
Allen told us that his favorite sport to play is rugby, but his favorite sport overall is football because his dad coached.
“Heck, I wrote a book,” Allen told us, referring to his tome “What Washington Can Learn From the World of Sports.”
Fun fact: Apparently, Allen and former Gov. and current Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) are good buddies and often vent about the difficulties for former executives serving in the Senate.
A few minutes later, HOH bumped into former Sen. John Warner (R-Va.).
The 84-year-old had just spent two hours that day testifying before the House Armed Services Committee, which is pretty baller.
And at the West Wing Writers 10th anniversary gala at the Shakespeare Theater on Thursday, Democratic powerbroker Vernon Jordan, Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne and White House correspondents for CNN and NPR were among the heavies in attendance.
Terrell McSweeny, Matt Teper, Amy Dudley and Elizabeth Allen from Vice President Joseph Biden’s office were milling about, along with Sen. Chris Coons’ (D-Del.) chief of staff and legislative director, Todd Webster and Jon Stahler, respectively.
We were pleased to see Clark Judge, speechwriter for the late President Ronald Reagan, and John McConnell, speechwriter for the President George W. Bush, chilling as the token Republicans.
Their presence almost made it a biparty … kinda.
