John Boehner Picks GOP Minibus Conferees
Updated: 8:48 p.m.
Speaker John Boehner has selected a group of veteran GOP appropriators to represent House Republicans in negotiations over the “minibus” bill in the first conference committee on an appropriations bill since 2009.
Boehner’s picks include Reps. Jerry Lewis (Calif.), Bill Young (Fla.), Frank Wolf (Va.), Jack Kingston (Ga.), Tom Latham (Iowa), Robert Aderholt (Ala.), Jo Ann Emerson (Mo.), John Culberson (Texas), John Carter (Texas) and Steven LaTourette (Ohio).
Boehner will announce the picks Thursday. One of the conferees allowed Roll Call to review a list of names of aides to the conferees, and GOP sources verified the list, which may not have been comprehensive. Notably absent was an aide for Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers (Ky.), and it was unknown tonight whether he would be among the conferees.
A spokesman for Boehner declined to comment.
Congressional sources said the makeup of the group, full of moderates with decades of legislative experience, suggests that Boehner is seeking a quick agreement on the minibus, which combines the Commerce, Justice and science; Agriculture, rural development, and Food and Drug Administration; and Transportation and Housing and Urban Development spending bills.
