Carroll Campbell III Eyes Packed South Carolina GOP Primary

Republican businessman Carroll Campbell III, who ran an unsuccessful bid for South Carolina’s 1st district last cycle, is eying a bid for the newly created 7th district seat.

Campbell, whose Conway-based business is in the district, told Roll Call he will make a decision around Jan. 1.

“I’m going to see who’s going to come out of the woodwork. I’ve not been overly impressed with anybody who has jumped in the race yet,” he said.

Campbell is the son of former Gov. Carroll Campbell Jr. (R). State Rep. Thad Viers, former Lt. Gov. André Bauer and attorney Jay Jordan are running in the GOP primary. State Rep. Phillip Lowe (R) will soon make a decision on a run.
