HOH’s One-Minute Recess: CODEL to India a Slam Dunk

Flying around the world on the government dime sure looks like fun.

On Monday, we poked fun at a Congressional delegation headed by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor; now we’ve migrated to India, where Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) on Monday showed fellow lawmakers a surefire way to foster international trade: shooting hoops with retired NBA stars.

Sens. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), Tom Udall (D-N.M.) and Reps. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.) and Cedric Richmond (D-La.) joined Warner in mugging for the cameras with pint-sized point guard extraordinaire (and former Washington Bullet!) Muggsy Bogues during a Junior NBA clinic at New Delhi’s Modern School.

The visiting solons each donned commemorative jackets honoring their respective hometown NBA teams for several group shots, but Warner apparently stuck with black dress shoes and rolled up sleeves (no breakaways?) while firing off 3-pointers and lining up for a ceremonial jump ball with Bogues.

The House and Senate India Caucus members are expected to make several more stops during their weeklong swing through the subcontinent, including trips to Jaipur, Hyderabad and Kolkata. No word on how many pick-up games they’ll squeeze in before returning home this weekend.
