Updated: 4:02 p.m. | North Carolina Rep. Sue Myrick (R) announced today she will retire from the House this year.

“After thoughtful discussion with my family, I have decided not to run for another term in Congress,” the Congresswoman wrote in a post on Facebook and said in a video posted on YouTube.

“We will spend the rest of the year working on the issues that are important to all of you – and I hope to be a positive influence in all our negotiations. I hope you will join me in praying that God will heal our nation. May God bless you and your family,” she wrote.

The district is comfortably Republican. Potential candidates in the GOP primary are state Speaker Thom Tillis and state Rep. Ruth Samuelson.

State Sen. Bob Rucho (R), who helped draw the new districts as chairman of the legislature’s Redistricting Committee told Roll Call he isn’t interested in a bid for Congress.

“I have no wish to run. Y’all can have Washington,” he said with a chuckle.

“Having drawn the districts, it would be unethical” to run, Rucho added.
