Tuesday is here once again, and because it’s Fat Tuesday, what better way to celebrate than to sit down with Rep. Charles Boustany (R), the Congressman from Cajun Country in Southwestern Louisiana whose 56th birthday is today.




Q: It’s Mardi Gras: How will you be celebrating the festivities?

A: I have celebrated on both krewes and floats in years past, but this year I will be attending a Mardi Gras ball with my wife in Lake Charles, La.



Q: Louisiana doesn’t have a Major League Baseball team. If it did, what mascot would be fitting?

A: The Ragin’ Cajuns.


Q: Louisiana is known for its delectable selections of deep-fried dishes. What’s your favorite?  

A: Fried oysters. … What more do I need to explain?


Q: Does being a cardiovascular surgeon ever stop you from indulging in Louisiana’s comfort-food cuisine?   

A: No. As the saying goes, “everything in moderation.” You won’t hear that very often from a Louisiana native.


Q: As a child, what was the hardest thing about living in a house with 10 siblings?

A: If you didn’t show up on time for dinner, guess what? You didn’t get anything to eat.
