Iowa: Crossroads GPS Hits Leonard Boswell Again With New Ad

Crossroads GPS today will begin airing its third advertisement targeting Iowa Rep. Leonard Boswell (D), who is facing off against Rep. Tom Latham (R).

The new spot from the deep-pocketed conservative group ties Boswell to President Barack Obama through his votes for the stimulus bill and the health care overhaul law, according to a copy of the ad obtained exclusively by Roll Call.

Iowa’s population growth lagged over the past decade, so an independent redistricting commission redrew the Congressional map last year with one less House seat. As a result, Boswell and Latham are engaged in one of the only House races between two incumbent Members of different parties this November.

Crossroads GPS bought $77,000 worth of airtime for the new spot to run across the Des Moines and Omaha television markets through March 7, according to a spokesman for the group.

It’s clear the Iowa race has become a top target for Crossroads GPS this cycle. The spot is part of more than $370,000 Crossroads has spent on issue advertisements on this House race since late October.

Roll Call rates the 3rd district race as a Tossup.
