President Bill Clinton has endorsed businessman John Delaney in the Democratic primary in Maryland 6th district.

“John Delaney is a lifelong Democrat who has real life job creation experience, he’s a progressive business leader with a long record of civic activism and charitable causes,” Clinton said in a statement.

Delaney raised more than $800,000 for then-Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign, according to the Washington Post.

The Democratic primary has already taken on a nasty tone. The two campaigns trade press releases back-and-forth on an almost daily basis.

The primary is April 3. The 6th district was safe Republican territory until a Democratic-led redistricting made it much more competitive. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett (R) is in the fight of his career to hold on to a seat that Roll Call rates as Leans Democratic.
