Every week HOH gets to know a Member of Congress better through a series of five fun questions. This week, we visit with Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colo.).

Q: As a former student of journalism at the University of Kansas, who were your favorite reporters?

A: Ernie Pyle was unsurpassed for war reporting. I read both his books recently [“Here is Your War” and “Brave Men”], and they brought back stories my father told me about World War II.

Q: Is there a favorite restaurant you like to visit in Colorado or D.C.?

A: If I can mention chain restaurants, I love Pei Wei and P.F. Chang’s. … As for unique restaurants for special occasions, I enjoy anything at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs.

Q: Colorado Springs is known for its tourist attractions. Do you have any in particular that you enjoy visiting?

A: Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak are spectacular natural wonders. But to go slightly farther afield, climbing any of the Fourteeners [mountains with a minimum 14,000-foot peak] … is a true and rewarding challenge.

Q: The rocky terrain of Colorado is a reason skiers flock to the state. Do you or have you ever hit the slopes yourself?

A: I used to have a lot more time for skiing — and golfing, for that matter. Now if I have a little free time, I really enjoy hiking or riding my motorcycle, a 650 BMW, anywhere in Colorado.

Q: If you could meet and spend time with any person in the history of the world, who would it be?

A: Other than the obvious choice of Jesus … I would spend as much time as I could with Abraham Lincoln.
