Landrieu Chief of Staff Is Not Trapped in the Philippines

It appears Internet thieves don’t abide by the Congressional recess schedule.

So learned Jane Campbell, chief of staff for Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), when she awoke to discover that her personal Yahoo account had been compromised and her entire contact list poached.

“My personal email has been hacked. I am totally fine and in DC, not in the Philippines being robbed. Do not send money,” Campbell warned family, friends and various professional acquaintances via her still-secure Senate email.

“It’s just one of those classic scams,” Campbell told HOH of the SOS-from-a-stranded-and-penniless-traveler-abroad scenario email spammers use to separate gullible good Samaritans from their hard-earned cash.

Campbell has since updated her account — “I believe I’ve gotten control of it back,” she suggested — changing passwords and such to ward off future phishing attempts.
