Oklahoma: Runoffs Set in Second District
No Democrat or Republican garnered enough of the vote tonight to avoid a runoff for the “Little Dixie” district of retiring Rep. Dan Boren (D).
On Aug. 28, plumbing company owner Markwayne Mullin and state Rep. George Faught will face off for the GOP nomination.
Two Democrats, former Assistant U.S. Attorney Rob Wallace and seed company owner Wayne Herriman, will also head to a runoff on the same date.
The eastern Oklahoma district is viewed as a top pickup opportunity for Republicans. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) would have carried the redrawn district with 66 percent in 2008. Roll Call rates this race as Leans Republican.
Wallace led Herriman, 46 percent to 42 percent, with 86 percent of precincts reporting. That’s just a couple of points below the necessary 50 percent threshold to avoid a runoff.
Mullin picked up 42 percent to Faught’s 24 percent, but he also failed to garner enough of the vote to avoid another matchup with his deep-pocketed foe.
