Rep. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) released a new poll today showing he remains in a dead heat with state Treasurer Richard Mourdock in the Hoosier State’s open Senate race.

Donnelly received 41 percent to Mourdock’s 40 percent in the survey obtained by Roll Call and paid for by the Democrat’s campaign.

The survey shows Democrats believe the race remains competitive several months after Mourdock defeated six-term Sen. Dick Lugar for the Republican nomination in May. Roll Call rates the Indiana Senate race as Leans Republican.

A week after the primary, a similar Donnelly campaign survey showed the Democrat tied with Mourdock at 40 percent. Otherwise, public polling on the Senate race has been scarce.

“This poll shows Joe’s message of bipartisan, Hoosier common sense is resonating with voters across the political spectrum,” said Elizabeth Shappell, Donnelly’s communications director.

A libertarian candidate, Andrew Horning, took 4 percent in the survey.

Global Strategy Group performed the poll of 601 likely voters Aug. 2-5. The survey had a margin of error of 4 points.
