As Conventions Near, More Speakers Unveiled

The Democratic National Convention Committee today announced additional speakers for next month’s convention in Charlotte, N.C., where President Barack Obama will be renominated.

The speakers include Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel; California Attorney General Kamala Harris; Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper; former Democratic National Committee Chairman and Virginia Senate candidate Tim Kaine; Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick; Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), and former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland.

The committee previously announced the convention’s prime-time speakers: President Bill Clinton, Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren, first lady Michelle Obama and San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro.

The convention will be held Sept. 4-6 in Charlotte, N.C. The president and Vice President Joseph Biden will speak on the final night.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus last week announced six more speakers for the GOP convention, which is taking place in Tampa, Fla., Aug. 27-30. They include Sen. Kelly Ayotte (N.H.), former Rep. Artur Davis (D-Ala.), Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, Sen. Rob Portman (Ohio) and Rep. Connie Mack IV (Fla.), who is running for Senate.

Previously announced speakers include New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, Texas Senate nominee Ted Cruz, Puerto Rico Gov. Luis Fortuno, Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin, Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.), former Sen. Rick Santorum (Pa.), South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Florida Gov. Rick Scott.
