It’s Tuesday once again, when HOH gets to know a Member of Congress through five fun questions. This week, we catch up with Rep. Doris Matsui (D-Calif.) and talk to her about barbecue, the Beatles and the Oakland A’s.

Q: We heard you like to cook. What’s your favorite dish to cook when you have time to make a meal?

A: I have three favorite dishes, depending on the season and occasion. In the winter, I like to make braised short ribs, and in the summer, my favorites are barbecued ribs and sesame chicken watercress salad.

Q: You used to serve on the boards of several museums and arts organizations in Sacramento. Which museums do you enjoy back in your home district?

A: I always enjoy going to the newly expanded Crocker Art Museum and … the California State Railroad Museum.

Q: If you had to pick one musician or band that has shaped your life the most, who would it be?

A: My generation was very influenced by the music of the Beatles. I also like the music of Yo-Yo Ma; he is an incredible cellist.

Q: Both the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland Athletics are in the playoffs right now. Which one do you root for?

A: I am rooting for the Oakland A’s. They have had an unbelievable season and have a truly amazing story.

Q: When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A: When I was growing up, I always thought I’d like to be a judge. … I am a Libra; I appreciate fairness and justice.
