Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., who is on his way back to the Mayo Clinic, is robocalling his constituents in Illinois’ 2nd district, asking for their patience and promising to continue to serve the district at some point in the future.

“For nearly 18 years I have served the people of the second district, I am anxious to return to work on your behalf, but at this time it is against medical advice, and while I will always give my all to my constituents, I ask for your continued patience as I work to get my health back,” the Democrat says in the call, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Jackson has been on leave from Congress since June 10. The cause of his mysterious absence was unknown for some time after that, and explanations have included ailments including exhaustion, depression and bipolar disorder.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal reported this week that the Congressman is also under federal investigation for misuse of campaign funds. Jackson allegedly used campaign money to decorate his house. Jackson has been questioned about his use of Congressional and campaign funds in the past.

“After my family, my constituents are the most important people in the world to me,” Jackson says in the call. “I will always act in your best interests.”

Despite his troubles, Jackson’s re-election in the heavily Democratic district is not in much doubt.
