Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch, the sister of comedian Stephen Colbert, launched her first television advertisement Thursday as she seeks the Democratic nomination in South Carolina’s 1st District special election.

In the slickly-made spot, she shares her résumé — director of sales and marketing at a shipping company, director of business development at a former naval shipyard in North Charleston — and emphasizes her experience creating jobs.

“I’ve spent 20 years using our ports to create jobs: selling American products made by American workers,” she says. “I know what it takes to create new jobs.”

Notably absent from the 30-second spot: any mention of her party affiliation. The coastal 1st District, which stretches from Hilton Head Island to Beaufort to north of Charleston, is solid Republican turf. It was formerly held by Republican Tim Scott, who was appointed to the Senate.

Colbert Busch faces a nominal primary challenge from Ben Frasier, a perennial candidate. But if, as expected, she wins that contest, her real challenge will be the general election. Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford is the frontrunner in seen as the GOP frontrunner.

A Republican operative said the Colbert Busch ad was backed by $13,345 from March 7-11 on Charleston Broadcast television — a small amount. An email and phone call to the Colbert Busch campaign inquiring about the buy size were not  returned Thursday morning.
