‘Genius’ Playwright to Speak at Studio Theatre on Friday

Playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis, who wrote the absolutely stellar “The [MoFo] with the Hat,” will be speaking at the Studio Theatre on Friday.

Guirgis will be in D.C. fresh off the heels of being awarded Yale’s prestigious Windham-Campbell Literary Prize. According to the New York Times, this is “among the largest literary prizes in the world.” The Atlantic Wire says that the Windham-Campbell is the literary equivalent of winning a MacArthur “genius grant.”

HOH simply says, in the words of Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., this is a BFD.

“Tony-Award nominated playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis will visit to see our current production,” the theater announced this week. Friday’s show will be followed by a discussion with Guirgis and the production’s director, Serge Seiden.

Studio is inviting cast and production members of previous Guirgis shows at D.C.’s Woolly Mammoth Theatre to participate in the evening.

If you’re dying to participate — if you’ve seen the show, which is, for our money the best piece of theater of the spring D.C. theater season so far —  you will be. Follow the conversation on Twitter at #GuirgisinDC. Tweet your questions for the playwright as well.

Conversation to kick off at 10 p.m.
