Boehnerland Mourns Death of Staffer Mary Reed

Speaker John A. Boehner’s office is mourning the loss of one of its own, the Ohio Republican announced Tuesday.

Mary Reed, the speaker’s financial administrator, died from complications related to cancer just before midnight on Saturday, according to the speaker’s office.

“We mourn the loss of Mary and send prayers and condolences to her husband John, her family, and friends,” Boehner said in a Tuesday blog post. “Mary made a lasting contribution not just to my office, but to the U.S. House of Representatives as a whole. She was a loyal and dedicated staffer who always brought kindness and humor to those around her, and she will always be part of Boehnerland.”

The office is planning a memorial service in May.

The longtime congressional staffer had also worked for several other offices, including for GOP Reps. Joe Heck of Nevada, Tom Latham of Iowa, Howard “Buck” McKeon of California, Jeff Miller of Florida, Steve Stivers of Ohio and Christopher H. Smith of New Jersey.

Reed is survived by her husband, John, and her children, Casey and Kate.
