Cedric Richmond Shows Social Media Moxie
Rep. Cedric L. Richmond, the New Orleans Democrat known for smoking Republicans with his pitching skills during the annual CQ Roll Call Congressional Baseball Game, added another notch to his social media belt by joining Instagram last week.
Richmond told HOH that he decided to launch the account to give his constituents a peek into the life of a member of Congress.
“I thought it would be something unique to try and figure out,” Richmond added.
HOH is thus far impressed with the caliber of photos and the colloquial comments Richmond is posting under the name “NolaCed.”
HOH’s favorite so far is an image of Richmond with NBA superstar LeBron James.
In the image, Richmond, who played baseball as a Morehouse undergrad, is dwarfed by LeBron, which gave HOH a laugh.
The pair met after LeBron scored 40 points against Richmond’s hometown team, the New Orleans Hornets.
“He didn’t have to do that to my Hornets/Pelicans! Smh,” Richmond wrote alongside the photo. Smh stands for “shaking my head,” and, according to UrbanDictionary.com, is “used when someone finds something so stupid, no words can do it justice.”
A picture Richmond posted on the account of his “lunch,” aka a sad-looking Lunchables with a block of American cheese, a few crackers, some bologna and what looks like Girl Scout Cookies, earned him blowback from a handful of the 224 followers now on his account.
“Man U gotta learn how to embezzle some of the tax payers dollars so u can eat a lil better than that!” said a follower with the username corryspann_. Other pics, though, show some great-looking meals, such as barbecue shrimp, a New Orleans favorite.
Richmond also posted two pictures from the White House screening last Tuesday of the movie “42,” about African-American baseball pioneer Jackie Robinson.
Upon receiving his invite via email to the event, Richmond posted a picture with the caption, “What a surprise! And it’s not Bootleg!!!!”
Richmond told HOH that attending the screening was “one of those events that you cherish in your lifetime,” and he recommends the movie to viewers.
