Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, has offered his support for former Louisiana Rep. Jeff Landry’s new super PAC, which aims to boost conservatives in House races.

Jordan, one-time chairman of the conservative Republican Study Committee, sent Landry a note of support Tuesday — just after the Pelican State Republican announced he was launching Restore Our Republic super PAC.

“You know the uphill battle we conservatives face in Congress. You have been in the trenches,” Jordan wrote in a letter to Landry, obtained by CQ Roll Call. “I am looking forward to the Restore Our Republic PAC identifying and supporting constitutional conservatives who are committed to the principles we hold dear.”

Landry, who lost his seat to Rep. Charles Boustany Jr. in 2012 after serving one term in the House, said the super PAC’s funds will support conservative candidates running for House seats, even if that means challenging incumbent Republicans.

Landry’s new venture quelled rumors that he was going to join GOP Rep. Bill Cassidy and enter the race for Senate in Louisiana. Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu faces a tough re-election battle in 2014.

Although Landry told CQ Roll Call that he is not ruling out future bids for elected office, he said he is committed to the Restore Our Republic project and wouldn’t be able to both run for office and control the super PAC at the same time because of ethics rules.

Restore Our Republic has received support from four other conservative House members, including Reps. Mick Mulvaney and Jeff Duncan of South Carolina, Tom Graves of Georgia and David Schweikert of Arizona, according to a press release from the super PAC.
