Shop Talk: Hughes Joins Hilltop Public Solutions

Hilltop Public Solutions will name Craig Hughes, a top Colorado Democratic consultant, as its newest partner Tuesday.

Hughes, who served as Sen. Michael Bennet’s 2010 campaign manager in Colorado, is part of Hilltop’s expansion into the Western states. The firm recently hired operatives from Montana and Oregon.

“Bottom line — without Craig Hughes running that race, I wouldn’t be Senator today,” said Bennet, now Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee chairman, in a statement. “Hilltop is lucky to have Craig. He makes an incredibly valuable addition to their firm.”

Hughes will open and oversee the firm’s new Denver office. In February, CQ Roll Call reported that Hilltop hired Aaron Murphy, a former communications operative for Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont.

Hughes leaves his position as partner and managing director at RBI Strategies & Research.

He has worked on a number of issue and candidate campaigns, including as a senior adviser to President Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns in Colorado, according to his biography with RBI. He is also a veteran of President Bill Clinton’s administration and his 1992 presidential campaign.
